Remarks
*
The health condition of the tree had been deteriorating and the tree crown thinning since 2012. Despite the intensive care and remedies applied to this tree, it failed to show signs of improvement. Upon a site inspection by the Tree Management Office (TMO) of the Development Bureau in mid-October 2012, the tree was confirmed to be infected by the Brown Root Rot (BRR) disease. In December 2012, a joint inspection was conducted with members of the Expert Panel on Tree Management of the Development Bureau who confirmed that the health of the tree was irrecoverable and the structure of the tree had been damaged, resulting in potential risk of collapse. Since Hong Kong Park is a popular venue frequently visited by members of the public , after consulting the TMO, the Department removed the tree on 12 March 2013 to ensure public safety and to prevent the spread of the BRR disease to other vegetation in the vicinity. The Central and Western District Council was notified of the decision on 11 March 2013.
